Hybrid Willow Plants and Cuttings - Privacy Screen, Erosion Control
from $15.00
sold out
[Late Winter/Early Spring 2026 Nursery Update!]
We are still in the thick of winter here, with 1–2 feet of snow on the ground and single digit nighttime temperatures. While we aim to maintain a fast shipping schedule, our top priority is protecting your plants. We will harvest, process, and ship orders only during windows of mild weather to ensure your cuttings and plants arrive safely. (We cannot wait for temps to go above freezing!)
We can’t wait for the growing season to begin!
I am obsessed with willows now, I am planting them everywhere. And I use cuttings in water as a rooting hormone for my propagations.
Hybrid willow (Salix spp.) is a fast-growing, deciduous tree or shrub resulting from crossbreeding various willow species to enhance desirable traits like rapid growth, adaptability, and aesthetic appeal. Known for its slender, flexible branches and narrow, lance-shaped leaves, it thrives in a variety of climates and soil types, particularly in moist or wet conditions near water sources. Popular uses include erosion control along riverbanks, windbreaks, privacy screens, and Living structures and basket/furniture making. Hybrid willows are also valued in ornamental landscaping for their graceful form.
Care requirements are minimal; they prefer full sun, tolerate a range of soil conditions (though they excel in moist, well-drained soils), and benefit from occasional pruning to maintain shape and encourage dense growth. Regular watering during establishment and in dry periods ensures optimal growth, while their resilience makes them relatively pest- and disease-resistant.
Cuttings will contain 3-4 Nodes and typically be 1/4-3/8" Thick. They will root readily in water which is a fun way to see them grow indoors until the weather warms up. They can also be stuck right into the ground outside once the earth is work-able.
Plants are well rooted into 2" plugs and are ready to go into the ground! They grow very quickly once they establish. Just a few trees can make a dense privacy screen or plenty of material for making many things!
