Ebony King Blackberry: High Bush, Erect Canes High Yields! Plants and Cuttings

from $22.00
[Late Winter/Early Spring 2026 Nursery Update!]

We are still in the thick of winter here, with 2+ feet of snow on the ground and single digit nighttime temperatures. While we aim to maintain a fast shipping schedule, our top priority is protecting your plants. We will harvest, process, and ship orders only during windows of mild weather to ensure your cuttings and plants arrive safely. Please expect slow shipping on these blackberries due to the deep snow pack.

(We cannot wait for temps to go above freezing!)

Ebony King blackberry is a vigorous, upright-growing cultivar valued for its reliable production and firm, glossy black fruit. The berries are medium to large, with a balanced sweet–tart flavor and good texture for fresh use, processing, or freezing. Plants produce sturdy canes and perform well in a range of temperate climates when grown in full sun and well-drained soil.

Ebony King blackberry plants are vigorous and upright in growth habit. Mature plants typically reach 5-7 feet in height, with canes of similar length that may arch slightly as they elongate. Individual plants can spread 3–4 feet wide, depending on pruning and sucker management. Without support, canes generally remain fairly upright compared to trailing types, but a simple trellis can help manage height, improve air circulation, and make harvesting easier. Regular pruning keeps plants within bounds and maintains productive cane renewal year to year.

Our favorite uses for these berries is to let them grow in places we neglect or would like to create a privacy screen or a deer screen. These will grow so densely that not even deer will attempt to cross through them. After the first year you can expect runners in every direction and for these to multiply at a incredible rate. Once they fully establish very few plants can truly compete with them. At one of our homesteads several years ago over 100lbs of berries had been harvested in a single week!

Your blackberries will be shipped as dormant cuttings or bare-root plants during the winter (dormant season), or as trimmed live plants during the growing season. You can plant them immediately upon arrival. Replant with the roots buried to the pre-existing soil line, which should be easy to identify.
