Cold Climate Elderberry Collection: Up to 8 Varieties of Cuttings and Plants
from $50.00
[Late Winter/Early Spring 2026 Nursery Update!]
We are still in the thick of winter here, with 1–2 feet of snow on the ground and single digit nighttime temperatures. While we aim to maintain a fast shipping schedule, our top priority is protecting your plants. We will harvest, process, and ship orders only during windows of mild weather to ensure your cuttings and plants arrive safely. (We cannot wait for temps to go above freezing!)
We can’t wait for the growing season to begin!
Introducing the first Elderberry Collection from our Zone 5 farm! This selection features our top-performing varieties, curated after years of careful observation in our northern climate.
To ensure your orchard’s success, we are trialing dozens of local and seedling varieties to serve as robust pollinators and increase genetic diversity; we include these native pollinators with every order.
The Complete Collection: Includes one each of six distinct varieties proven to thrive in cold climates, plus four additional pollinators.
The Starter Collection: Includes three of our best-performing types, along with three pollinators specifically selected for the climate zone of your shipping address.
Scale Up: You can double your order of plants or cuttings by selecting the 'X2' option at checkout.
Size: This is a diverse selection of Elderberry varieties. Depending on the type, plants will range from 6' to 10' wide and tall at full maturity.
Hardiness Zone: 3–9
Growth Timeline:
Year 1: If planted early in spring, expect a few berry clusters under good conditions.
Year 2: Expect consistent flowering and healthy berry clusters from every plant.
Year 3+: Plants reach high production, yielding several pounds of berries per plant.
Light Requirements: Full Sun to Partial Shade.
Soil Preferences: Highly adaptable to most soil types. While they are resilient, Elderberries perform significantly better in moist, well-drained soils compared to dry soils.
Our Elderberries!
This collection features our premium cuttings, ideal for reliable propagation. Their substantial size allows for direct planting into firm ground without the need for specialized tools. This larger profile also ensures they are easy to locate as surrounding vegetation grows taller later in the season.
Rooted cuttings are supplied in 5" plugs, hardened off and ready for immediate direct planting.
