June Elderfrost Nursery Update
The season is finally here! May hit us with wild swings of 80-degree days, nights in the upper 30s, and even 3 inches of rain in 24 hours, but our plants are growing, blooming, and bringing the promise of berries!
(Rubus idaeus var. strigosus)
While we aim to maintain a fast shipping schedule, our top priority is protecting your plants. We harvest, process, and mail orders when young plants are ready for shipping (which may mean your order takes a few extra days), ensuring your cuttings and plants arrive safely.
Wild New England Raspberry
Native New England Thornless Raspberry (Rubus idaeus var. strigosus) is the wild, native variety of cultivated raspberries. These vigorous brambles produce bright red, cap-shaped berries bursting with classic juicy raspberry flavor, ideal for jams, freezing, and eating fresh. Our variety is naturally thornless, with small bumps. We are excited to start offering these wonderful native raspberries adapted to our harsh winter climate, which produce delicate white flowers and sweet, tangy, beautiful berries.
First-year plants will produce canes, but the best fruit will be from second-year growth the following year. Growing wild raspberries also offers ecological benefits, providing food and shelter for pollinators, birds, and mammals, enhancing biodiversity in your garden while offering a low-maintenance, wildlife-friendly addition.
Your Order
Your raspberries will arrive as trimmed, live plants during the warm growing season, packed in damp sawdust. You should plant them immediately. Replant raspberry canes with the root buried to the pre-existing soil line, which is easy to identify with {{how do they know}}
